The Archives

Tucked away in a secret location at the Kings Theatre is the Theatre’s Archives. Filing cabinets and shelves are full of over 110 years of our theatre history.

Programmes, leaflets, posters, memorabilia and reminiscences fill the drawers. Our team of volunteer archivists are always hard at work cataloguing these, creating databases and providing interesting material for display in the theatre’s foyers and regular Meet the Archivist events.

The archives are currently not open to the public, but we do have aspirations to make them more accessible.

The archives are an integral to our community engagement activity, and were at the heart of last year’s project on Theatre during the First World War.

You can book our Archivists to give a talk at your school, club or society or a regular or bespoke guided tour of the theatre. Please email glyn.harris@kingsportsmouth.co.uk for more details.

How you can help?

Do you have any old programmes, tickets, and merchandise from the Kings Theatre? Then we want them! Do you have any archival training or work experience? Do you have a few hours to spare? Then consider becoming part of our volunteer team. Contact the team on archives@kingsportsmouth.co.uk for more information.

Consider making a donation to support the purchase or restoration of items.
