The Kings Youth Theatre is hosting two exciting workshops this November in collaboration with Dance Explosion artists. Come along to learn more about these two distinctive dance styles with professional practitioners. Suitable both for those wanting to expand their dance experience and for people with no dance background.

Indian Dance (Bharatanatyam) with Niharika Kasturi | 4:30PM – 5:45PM
Niharika Kasturi is a dancer, teacher, researcher and entrepreneur. She is a disciple of Guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar and has trained in Bharatanatyam for twelve years. As part of the Abhinaya Aradhana Dance School, Niharika has performed on various occasions as part of her Guru’s entourage. She has completed her Masters in Dance Research from the University of Chichester where she conducted research on the role of Gender in Bharatanatyam. She has also worked on understanding the relationship between culture and dance in the Indian subcontinent. She is presently working as a Faculty of Performing Arts in Shiv Nadar School where she designs curriculum for the co-scholastic classes that integrate arts with the scholastic subjects being taught in the school. Niharika has travelled from India to perform and teach as part of Dance Explosion.
This workshop will give participants an insight into this ancient dance form. Niharika will explore technique, artistry and the choreographic methods used in her practice. Learn the foundations of the style and how it is performed today.
Contemporary Dance with Elisha Hamilton Dance | 6:15PM – 7:30PM
Elisha Hamilton Dance are a contemporary dance company based in the South East of England. They perform, choreograph and teach to all abilities for ages 10 – 85. EHD creates poetic and theatrical work formed through improvisational approaches.
Elisha Hamilton Dance offers a contemporary dance workshop suitable for all abilities. The workshop will focus on release technique and explore partner work too. The session will be fun, fast-paced and will offer the chance to learn choreography from the company’s recent work ‘Through Somewhere but Here…’ This workshop will be led by Elisha Hamilton, company director, alongside a company dancer.
