About the Performance

Why has Peter Pan been postponed to 2021?

Following the continuing Covid 19 temporary closure of theatres, we liaised with both the creative team and our co-producer and took the decision to postpone Peter Pan for a year. It will be back with John Challis as Captain Hook and our favourite Dame, Jack Edwards between Saturday 27 November and Friday 31 December 2021.

I’ve got Tickets for Peter Pan… What are my options?

All ticket holders for Peter Pan were emailed on Friday 5 June with their options which are:

  • Roll your tickets and seats over to Peter Pan in 2021. You will keep exactly the same seats.
  • Exchange your Peter Pan tickets for Dick Whittington. Choose the date you want to attend and we’ll throw in a free ice cream and drink for each member of your party plus 1 free programme
  • If you are unable to make Dick Whittington or Peter Pan we can give you a refund or credit note (excl fees)

If Peter Pan has been postponed, will there be a Kings Panto this year?

Of course, what would Pompey be without a Panto? Between Saturday 28 November and Thursday 31 December 2020 we will be premiering Dick Whittington starring Pompey’s favourite Dame, Jack Edwards and X Factor star Sean Smith, alongside a host of local favourites.

What is Dick Whittington about?

Join our hero Dick Whittington on his thrilling quest to find adventure, fame and fortune in the glittering streets of London. Will he be able to defeat villainous rodent King Rat, save the city and win the hand of his love, Alice?

Get ready to follow your dreams as this classic tale is reimagined for our annual fun-filled pantomime. Expect Pompey’s much-loved mix of songs, bonkers humour, stunning sets and don’t forget the hilarious 12 Days of Christmas all wrapped up in a magical festive treat for all ages.

Who is in Dick Whittington?

Dick Whittington stars the Kings’ resident Dame, Jack Edwards as Dame Dolly alongside Portsmouth-born and former X Factor finalist, Smith Smith playing the title role. They will be joined by a host of local favourites.

Will the Panto have ’12 Days of Christmas?’

Definitely, Dick Whittington will have all the panto favourite that you love and expect including 12 Days of Christmas, Ghost gag and the songsheet

Can I still get a shout-out?

Yes, but as always these cannot be guaranteed. We will write to you 2 weeks before the show and let you know how you can nominate someone for a shout out.

Hygiene and Safety

Can you tell me how you will be managing the extra hygiene issues required due to the Covid 19 situation?

The Kings Theatre is undertaking a number of measures for your comfort and safety:
• A deep clean of the venue has been undertaken
• An increased daily cleaning regime will be in operation.
• Hand sanitisers will be available at all entrances and throughout the building for staff, performers and customers.
• Staff training has been undertaken so that all staff are aware of their responsibilities and hygiene routine to be followed.
• All staff will be supplied with PPE as needed.
• If you are showing any symptoms of Covid 19 please do not come to the theatre
• We ask all audience members to wear a face covering. If you do not have your own we will supply a disposable face covering.
• Non-contact temperature checks will apply to all staff, performers and customers.
• Screens have been fitted to our Box Office, merchandise and confectionery counters.
• Audience numbers will be limited to ensure safe social distancing measures can be complied with
• Crowd control measures including audience entrance and exit and flow through the venue, to toilets, bars, leaving etc. will be implemented.

What about Social Distancing?

Capacity for each performance is limited to comply with current social distancing. If these rules are relaxed we will increase capacity as allowed.

Tickets are on sale as unallocated seating. When booking please choose the area of the theatre you want to sit in (Stalls, Dress Circle or Upper Circle) and  the number of tickets for your party. All members of your party will be sat together. Two weeks before your performance we will email you with your allocated seats, entrance time and entrance door to the theatre you should use in order to keep queues to a minimum.

Rule of 6

In line with the governments’ guidance on ‘Rule of 6’ if your party is of 6 or less you can still all sit together as a family/social bubble.

If you have booked more than 6 tickets for a show we will be in touch with individual ticket holders.

Your party will all be seated in the same area but we will need to apply social distancing guidelines so that a maximum of 6 people will be sat together.

If you have any specific seating requirements (aisle etc) please email box.office@kingsportsmouth.co.uk after booking, quoting your booking number, with your requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you. However we cannot guarantee specific seats.

Staff will be available to help you if you lose any of this information.

Merchandise and Refreshments

I want to buy a Programme/Ice Cream/Drinks?

For your safety and comfort there will be limited opportunities to buy items at the theatre. Ice-creams, drinks, snacks, merchandise and programmes will be will be available on-line when booking tickets for shows and we would encourage you to book these in advance. They will then be ready for you to collect at the venue.

Two weeks before your performance we will email you with details about your seating (see above). This email will also include details on how to download an app to your phone that will allow you to purchase a limited selection of drinks, snacks and ice-creams when you arrive at the theatre that will then be delivered to you at your seat to minimise movement around the theatre and contact with other staff/customers.

How Much will it Cost?

All tickets are £20

We know how difficult this year will have been for many of us so we wanted to make sure that we give Portsmouth the brilliant Kings panto you have come to expect and make sure as many people as possible could come along.

Why can’t I Choose my Seats?

Due to the current Coronavirus situation we are preparing to allow a level of social distancing for our audience for their comfort and safety. This has meant we have had to reduce our overall capacity for our beautiful venue.

Will you still have Accessible Seats and Companion Tickets?

Yes we do. Our accessible seats in the stalls will still be available but the number may be reduced due to social distancing. We will also still offer our companion seats at £10.

My Baby is under 2. Will I still be able to buy a Babes in Arms Ticket?

Yes, Babes in Arms tickets are still available for all children under 2 who will sit on a parent/guardian lap for the nominal fee of £2

I want to bring a School Group to the Panto?

We have 6 dedicated schools performances at 14.00 on Tues 1, Wed 2, Tue 8, Wed 9, Tues 15 and Wed 16 December. Tickets for Schools/Education Groups at these performances at £10.25 each. You can reserve and book in for these performances by emailing groups@kingsportsmouth.co.uk

Are you still doing a Free Performance for NHS/Key Workers?

Yes we are. Wednesday 2nd December is a free performance for NHS and other key. Tickets will be allocated via ballot which is open until 5pm on Friday 24 July 2020. Full details can be found here.

What happens if Theatres are not allowed to Open in December?

If for any reason we are not allowed by the government to put on the show we guarantee a refund of the ticket price.

Travel and Parking

How do I get to the Kings?

You can find full details of how to get to us by car, taxi. Bus, train and ferry here.

Will there be free Park and Ride again this year?

At the moment we cannot confirm this but we hope to be able to offer a Park and Ride service after the success of last year

What Parking is there near the Theatre?

Public parking is available at Waitrose in Marmion Road which is an 8 minute walk from the theatre. Waitrose, Marmion Road, Southsea, PO5 2EJ.

There is parking available on the residential streets surrounding the theatre but this is not guaranteed. Please note there are parking permit restrictions between 4:30pm and 6:30pm daily.
