Theatre Royal is seeking an experienced, proactive Deputy Stage Manager to join our vibrant team for our 2025 Christmas pantomime. This year’s production promises high energy, dazzling spectacle, and plenty of festive fun—so we’re looking for a DSM who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and brings precision, warmth, and a cool head under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on book-covering and cueing throughout rehearsals and performances
  • Liaise confidently with cast, creatives, technical teams, and venue staff
  • Manage rehearsal room logistics and daily calls
  • Maintain clear, accurate show documentation and prompt books
  • Support the Stage Manager in running the show and coordinating backstage operations

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven DSM experience on mid- to large-scale productions (panto experience a plus!)
  • Strong cueing and multitasking ability, especially with complex sound, LX, and FX sequences
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Calm, organised, and solutions-focused under pressure
  • Familiarity with ITC/Equity agreements and safe working practices

Dates

Rehearsals begin 1 Dec 2025, with tech and previews in early December. The show runs until 4 January 2026, including Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve performances.

We are looking for a passionate individual looking to undertake a placement as a Wig Assistant for our upcoming production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

You will work alongside a talented Head of Wigs who will provide detailed training to ensure you are able to undertake the role.

You will be required to be available for all the following October dates as the shift rotation is yet to be finalised:

  • Thursday 3rd –  1:30-10:30
  • Friday 4th – 12-8:30
  • Saturday 5th – 9-10:30
  • Sunday 6th –  10:30-10:30
  • Monday 7th – 10:30-10:30
  • Tuesday 8th –  12:30-9:30
  • Wednesday 9th –  12:30-9:30
  • Thursday 10th –  12:30-9:30
  • Friday 11th –  12:30-9:30
  • Saturday 12th –  9:30 – 9:30
  • Sunday 13th –  9am-8pm

The role is an unpaid work placement with all necessary training provided to utilise and build skills learnt in college / hair courses.
